“Be alive to what exists around you. Dream of change, set goals. Make your dreams become realities. Strive and persist. Succeed in making those dreams come true. Yet, throughout all those, always be happy, though never complacent, in and with the present. Appreciate the gifts you have now, for they are many. Now, go and change your world. You can. You only have to try.”
– Melisa McGuire, at age 17 years old
Last year’s walk and fun run set a record for the largest first year event of its kind ever held in San Diego County in 2010. More than 1,200 participants on 105 teams raised over $165,000 to support hospice and palliative medicine programs throughout San Diego County.
This annual event was the dream of Kaye and Richard Woltman, in honor of their daughter Melisa Reasner McGuire. She was a compassionate, caring person who lost her valiant battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December of 2002. Kaye Woltman passed away on San Diego Hospice services in 2010.
