Put Your Best Face Forward in the New Year
GBK Cosmetic Laser Dermatology offers its top tips for skin care in 2009

(San Diego) - Who doesn’t want to look their best every day? While amazing advancements in cosmetic dermatology make state of the art treatments available, there are also simple basics and inexpensive options that will help you put your best face forward in 2009.

“Everyone want to look good, whether it’s to stay competitive in the job market these days, to make themselves attractive to others, or just to celebrate good health and vitality,” says Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman, Medical Director of GBK Cosmetic Laser Dermatology. “Research in cosmetic dermatology continues to provide us new and exciting ways to offer treatments and smart products that are more effective and less invasive than ever.”

“People are living longer, healthier lives, and they want their appearance to reflect this,” said Dr. Goldman. “Men and women of all ages from all walks of life are starting to take better care of how they look and they aren’t apologizing for it. Like it or not, how you look affects your well being and your attitude, and when you look good you feel good too.”

Dr. Goldman’s top tips for looking good at any age:
  • Minimize sun damage with a daily moisturizing sunscreen.
Without this basic step, other treatments are practically worthless.
  • Use a mineral based power make-up for a fresh look and protect your skin from sun damage at the same time.
Mineral based make-up is by far the best product on the market for your skin because it contains fewer preservatives that can irritate. Choose one with a sunscreen.

  • Stay away from tanning beds. To achieve a warm skin tone in the winter, use a self-tanner.
Don’t believe the hype about tanning beds being “safe” or healthy.” Tanning is tanning and it always damages your skin. Self-tanners are better and more natural looking than ever due to increasing demand.
  • Use skin care with anti-oxidants.
Antioxidants are critically important. They protect the skin from free radical damage caused by hazards like sunlight, pollution, smoking, and a poor diet.
  • Reduce pore size and clear acne with a Clarasonic skin brush
When you use this brush, you’ll see a huge difference in the effectiveness of your products.
  • Exfoliate dead winter skin with dermaplaning or a professional peel.
Helping your skin get rid of dead skin cells will keep your skin from looking dull and keep pores from clogging.
  • Minimize frown and wrinkle lines with Botox treatment
Botox is number one for several reasons: it’s safe, non-invasive, and it works!
  • Smooth deep facial folds with a filler like Juvederm or Restylane.
Dermal fillers are truly amazing – it’s a liquid face lift with no cutting at much less cost and risk.
  • Try the new eyelash lengthening treatment recently approved by the FDA.
It’s called “Latisse,” a topical application made by the same company as Botox. It should be available by March.
