WHO: Willie Brown Gets Real About Out of Control Public Labor Union Pension Costs (and what needs to be done about them)
WHEN: Friday, October 1, 11:30 a.m. check-in / 12 noon program
WHERE: U.S. Grant Hotel, 326 Broadway, San Diego
WHAT: Brown, former California Assembly Speaker and former Mayor of San Francisco, has become an outspoken advocate of reining in public employee pension costs, which are threatening to bankrupt governments. “At some point, someone is going to have to get honest about the fact that 80 percent of the state, county and city budget deficits are due to employee costs," says Brown.
Brown will discuss his willingness to stand up to public labor unions and his reasons for supporting a traditionally conservative position, including his strong backing of the most watched ballot measure in California, Proposition B in San Francisco. Being called the “Proposition 13 of Pension Reform,” Prop B would require city employees to contribute substantially more of their pay to fund their pensions, and contribute more to dependent health care costs.
